This is very basic, but how do I add clients to my Server?

I've uploaded my database into the Server, but not sure how to connect to this.

Thanks

It's nothing complicated and I have made sure all non server compatible script steps have been removed. Is there a way to see where exactly the error is happening? The log is very non-descript. I would love to see which part of hte script and what line.

I have inherited a database using Filemaker Pro and Server v11. and have been using this for over 18 months without any issues. I am a fairly low technical user but have created new fields and scripts etc.

However for some reason some of the export data scripts have stopped working and produce an error message of either "the file *.FP7 could not be Found" or "The file*.FP7 has has not been created by filemaker or is severely damaged or Corrupt"

Now I can understand if the file is corrupt or cannot be found. HOWEVER.

I am using Filemaker PRO Advanced and the export function works perfectly when I run the script. However ALL other users are using Filemaker Pro standard and these users are getting the error message. Does the advanced version have different privilages or run as a higher user level??

The problem is is that I obvisouly think everything is ok when programming it in the Advanced version but then when I roll it out to everyone else suddenly the scripts don't work.

Any help would be gratefully received. I can provide screen shots, copies of the scripts, file structures etc.

Kind regards

Chris Wright.

Overall description: I started getting 685 errors again this weekend:

Error 685 server.addr.ess Error occurred while deleting backup folder
"volume:path/to/file", some files or folders could not be deleted. (-1)

I thought that I was having the same problem as I had had previously: something in the path calculation for the external container field had gotten messed up (e.g. field renamed) and that all the files were being dumped into a parent directory or something.

But that was NOT the case. In looking at the directory that it said it couldn't delete there was only one directory/subdirectory tree left in that path, with only 1 file in that subdirectory. I went to that directory in a more recent backup copy (i.e. one that it hadn't tried to delete yet), and there was only 1 file there, too.

I did a test where I deleted this file and subdirectory from a backup BEFORE it tried to remove it, and I received no error message when that one's turn came up. I did this a few other times to verify. So deleting this one file and one subdirectory prevented the error from cropping up. I also tried deleting just the file (and not he subdirectory) and in those cases I DID get an error when it tried to delete that backup. So it appears to be something about the subdirectory itself.

I looked at the permissions on the file and they appeared to match what all the other files in other similar subdirectories were.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

-- J

Is it possible to perform this action FM 12 Server Advanced with a Scheduled Script at a specific time?

I have a script that runs from FM 12 Advanced that after clicking a button:

FINDS ALL, DELETE FOUND SET, Imports a text file. The file contains over 63,000 records.

Forum post by Daniel Packman

I have tried two hosting services with a FM12 database. When run locally, this db performs very well. On both remote systems there are significant delays, particularly when the db starts up. I can understand this if it has to recreate indices, but just scrolling through a couple of hundred entities on a layout creates huge delays and rotating beachballs. I always thought that serving a database myself via home dsl (supposedly 20 meg down / 5 meg up) would be limited by my network bandwidth and by going to a professional this would no longer be an issue. The speeds I'm seeing are comparable to when I served the DB myself.

One site I do IT support for runs Filemaker server v12. This was upgraded successfully from v9 in September last year. Since then it has run without a hitch, and has been working both internally and externally ( remotely via iPad ). In short - all good!

But... The person who admisters the system has just copied over some files to create new copies for the next financial period. When these files are opened, there is a chunk of data missing - basically everything after September.

So my working theory right now.... is that the conversion of the files has done something to the indexing which has only become apparent after the file is copied. This has now occured in several files and the file sizes look identical in each case, so I suspect that the data is actually there but that the indexing is messed up.

Question 1 - how do I confirm my theory that the indexing on a given file is at fault, given that the files I converted in the upgrade are still working fine for multiple users?

Question 2 - how do I reindex / repair the files? What is the best practice here?

Question 3 - if I took one of the original v9 files and renamed that, then converted it would that side step the issue?

Question 4 - is there anything in the file setup which could account for this behaviour?

Many Thanks

Paul.
