Bento for iPad needs the ability to link Email files and other files, like Bento for Mac does.

After giving up on Bento for OmniFocus, I am attempting to use Bento again, but the inability of Bento for Mac to show links to Emails and files is a serious weakness.

Workaround

Use OmniFocus for Mac and iPad.

And Bento for iPad and iPhone - all broken. File Maker blames Apple. Everything that made this a must have application is gone. Don't waste your money - before the updates I couldn't praise it enough, since then, since everything that made this the most used and useful application on ALL my devices and Macs - all gone

Workaround

There is no work around to what has been done to this application. I also own/use File Maker but Bento has been my work horse application since it was first released. The comment/response I received only told me that Apple broke the functionality. I had templates that pulled in e-mails for specific individuals, synced with my contacts and calendar - all gone. I don't expect a fix as the first response made it plain that there is no fix. If a company with software as comprehensive as File Maker cannot re-design their program to work, or carry enough influence with Apple to return the product to its former state of usefulness - something is REALLY wrong. And you still have the unmitigated gall to charge $45?? App Store still advertises the product as if it were the unbroken product? Shame on all of you

With all the added features of simple lists, I find myself using them more and more. However, information in simple lists don't show up in search results, which is a major inconvenience. I would also love to create smart collections based on simple list conditions.

I now have a Check Lists database, where all the check list items for a particular task are stored in a simple list field. And there's no way to search thru them. I also have a Product Research database with a simple list to store prices from different vendors. And if I want to look for all the product records from a single vendor? I have to go thru the records manually. It would make my life a lot easier if either of the aforementioned features were available.

Please seriously consider implementing these features in all editions of Bento! Thanks.

I would very much like to see a password for the Form Lock / Form Unlock feature. I remember seeing this mentioned months ago but can't find the thread again.

I know this is supposed to be a personal database and thus not requiring a password but there is a situation I am in where "a little knowledge is a dangerous thing" and a couple of the users of a Bento I have done for them think it is easy to go in and change things, not realising I am going to have to come along and fix it later. I don't want to hold them to ransom - I want them not to be able to change the form without me giving advice.

it would be helpful for a contact template - when setting a date to meet/call a client, if on the selected day, it would send an email reminder to me - or

have a popup screen reminder

now i have to double enter everything into google calendar which does the same

I use databases to manage collections, whether they be coins, stamps, or fine art. The ability to view specific groups of those collections is imperative. Each collection has its own Library, and within each Library I want to view specific groups of items. Therefore, I am requesting the following Advanced Find changes to Bento.

With Advanced Find, the list of comparisons for TEXT fields should be expanded to include:

Does Not End With
Does Not Start With
Is Not Equal To

This will allow the comparison operatives of CONTAINS, ENDS, STARTS, EQUAL, and EMPTY to be used with or without the NOT, and can be combined in the same Advanced Find. Currently, while you can specify that some field CONTAINS or DOES NOT CONTAIN a value, while another field is EMPTY or NOT EMPTY, you cannot make similar comparisons with ENDS, STARTS, or EQUAL. Similar changes should also be made for NUMERIC fields.

With Advanced Find, which records are displayed, should be changed from:

Display Records Which Match [ANY + ALL + NONE] of the Following Conditions

to:

[DISPLAY + OMIT] Records Which Match [ANY + ALL + NONE] of the Following Conditions

Many times it is easier to define which records you do not want displayed than it is to define which records you do want displayed. Besides making it easier to define which records you do not want displayed, this will enable you to OMIT records which match ALL.

I left the NONE selection in for backward compatibility, but it is no longer needed since to OMIT records which match NONE would be the same as DISPLAY records which match ANY, and to DISPLAY records which match NONE would be the same as OMIT records which match ANY.

Hopefully, these changes can be added at a future release.

Feature request: With the explosion of the cloud (iCloud, Dropbox, Suitcase, etc.) along with the multiple device world we live in, I would hope that Filemaker/Bento would be working on a way to utilize this to eliminate the need to sync devices only through a Mac. I use an iPhone and an iPad throughout the day and it is becoming increasingly inconvenient to have to return to my office, pause, turn on my Mac (yep, post PC world results in the computer not being on all day) and then sync. By having all versions using the same library (think OmniFocus) you would make Bento even more necessary in my world.

Possible Bento for Android tablets and phones??? (1 Comment)

I currently use Bento 3 for Mac and I love the versatility of it. While I have an iPhone 4, I am looking at upgrading to a Samsung Note 2 phone and getting an android tablet. Will there be any future release of either Bento or FileMaker for the Android platform? I am a truck driver and farmer and have found Bento to be a very friendly and versatile platform that meets my needs. Due to costs I have to upgrade to an Android platform, but I would like to continue to use Bento or FileMaker if possible.

Workaround

Currently I have to use worksheets and pen to do work then manually enter data into Bento for Mac in the evening.

I'm compiling a bunch of libraries created by different users. It's been a brilliant solution for all the teachers in the school, but we've repeatedly struggled to open a file created by one teacher. There is nothing unusual about the file, in fact, it's more simple than other libraries provided, but I get the following error message when I import the template file:

GNXML syntax error, line 670

Please help!
