    Roger,

I used to feel the same way ... and then I simply "re-thought" the way I was organizing my material.  FYI, I've gotten used to both iPhoto and BENTO and simply love the way I have flexibility to organize my various databases in Bento ... and photo "EVENTS" into libraries and slideshows in iPhoto.  It wasn't easy to teach this "old" dog "new" tricks ... but I took the time and am glad I did.  There's a lot of flexibility built in to both BENTO and iPhoto.  A user simply has to explore, experiment, and visit the various Forums that are devoted to acquainting new users with all the features.  I used to use FM Pro and was forced to use BENTO when it wouldn't work on the new Apple O/S (Lion).  Bento is much more powerful than most folks seem to think.   If a user only spends 30 minutes "taking a look" then I submit that the user really hasn't devoted enough time to exploring all the features!!!  Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Well Chris that was a good try.  Even though it didn't work for me, it did start me thinking along different lines.  You seem to have managed a "workaround" for YOUR situation but my situation was dealing with a 4-digit number that represented a year (I was trying to define it simply as a "number" because I wanted the advanced search options that the number field definition offered me) and combine it with the "Choice" features for entering data.  Your response started me to experiment as follows ---  I started by changing the field definition to "DATE".  While it did add a Month, Day, and Year to required data (I could live with that-even though I was simply interested in searching on the year) ... But SURPRISE, SURPRISE, the "Advanced Search Criteria" for the date field DID give me plenty of search options to limit the results to what I might be interested in.  So that's MY workaround.  I live with the Month and Day values being present and when I do searching, I can limit my searches to the year I'm interest in.

Thanks for forcing me to think along other lines -----  <Perry>Laughing
