    Title:
    Yet another feature request
    Post:
    Hi,

I know its been requested numerous times in the forum, but I'm just adding weight to the arguments here.

Print control is an essential feature if this is going to be useful software for many. I really only need some simple functionality: control of what prints from forms and what doesn't; ability to control the height of cells in table view, multiple records per page, and a few other basics.

Alternatively, I could do it all in Pages or similar if Bento had some sort of data-merge functionality.

Alternatively with Applescript support and it could all be done there.

The only way I can think of doing it at present would be a really clunky applescript solution that addresses .csv exports and fills out pdf forms but nobody should have to do that!!!

Also, I think it would be really useful for many people if Filemaker gave some indication of what suggestions they were intending to implement in the release version so users can make an informed decision on the software before they create a thousand records. Filemaker has got a lot of people out here helping them with their development - why not give us something in return?

    Thanks

      Thank you for your post.

Yes, there are printing limitations which have been voiced by many others on this forum.  Although I am not familiar with Pages, there have been some posts where users have been able to link Address Book and Pages directly with one another.  I know this isn't the ideal solution, but I thought you should be aware of that.

The Bento Development and Marketing departments have put together a FileMaker Pro database (because of network sharing) for Bento suggestions. Whenever a suggestion is made on this forum (directly or indirectly), I add a record to this database and copy and paste the post.  I then reply to the post that the suggestion has been forwarded to our Development and Marketing departments for consideration.  This also helps me keep track of what has been forwarded.  Even if the post says, "I agree", I'll forward it.

Unfortunately, I am not the one making the decision of what is going into the product; I just report it.  On the positive side, Developers come by my cubicle and ask me for clarification about some of these suggestions, plus some of them frequently visit the forum as guests.

I'm sorry information isn't available on what is going to be in the final product.  Then again, if FileMaker announced that a certain feature was going to be put into the product, and then due to unforeseen circumstances had to drop the feature, that would not sit very well with our customers.  We'd lose a lot of credibility.

From past experience with our FileMaker Pro customers, we listened to them and a lot of suggestions were put into the product.  I don't see why we would change that for Bento.  Remember, this is a release of a new product, and I have no doubt that it will evolve based upon customer suggestions.

      I'm sorry I can't be more definitive.

Oops!  I got so involved with the last post that I forgot to mention:

Your post has been forwarded to our Development and Marketing departments for consideration.

      TSGal,

With all due respect, I wouldn't be spreading it around that I don't use the products that are published by my corporate parent.  If I were you, I'd erase Word from my hard drive, get a copy of Pages, and start loving it.  :-)

      Dennis:

Thanks for your observations.  I may end up purchasing Pages, Numbers and Appleworks just to see what customers are experiencing.  However, just because FileMaker, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Apple Computer doesn't mean I should own every Apple product.  I just don't have a use for them.  Obviously, Apple doesn't require me to use all of their products.  Leopard ships with iChat and iMovie which I probably won't use.  I certainly don't have Microsoft Word.  The only word processor I use is email and TextEdit.  If I need something more, then I'll look at Pages.  :-)

      Thanks.
