    Title:
Importing excel spreadsheet to create database
    Post:

I am using file maker pro 10 on a Mac OS X version 10.4.11 and want to create a data base in filemaker from an existing excel spreadsheet (xlsx).

My trouble is, I have arranged my data on my excel spreadsheet by headings down the page in the first and second columns and not across the top row. So I do not want to use the First Row Option - I almost want to use a First/Second Column Option. Is there such a thing?

I want to be able to export 'a template of headings and questions (like a form)' from excel to filemaker. As the excel file I have will be distributed to others at work to be used as a form and then I want to be able to import their answers into filemaker.

Is there something I can do to overcome this?

    Thanks

Excel has a tool for swapping rows for columns. It's called "transpose". Look up in Excel's help file to see how to do it, transpose your rows for columns and now your spreadsheet will be in a format Filemaker can import.
