Bento bug report
Today I updated various collections in two libraries, then tried to move one collection to a different library. I tried dragging, tried to duplicate and paste. No luck. I tried making a new library to see if that would work. It started, but then an error message appeared to say Bento had to quit. Should I ignore or report? I clicked on 'report' but nothing happened. Bento did not disappear, and all my libraries and collections remained in the panel, but they are all empty. If I click on one and try to export it, I can't as "Export" and most other menu items are grayed-out.
"About Bento" says it is Bento2.0v5, which is the version I bought a number of years ago. Bento 4 has disappeared. The file in Library is from 2009.
Bento has to quit. Ignore or report.

Diane Whitehead:
Thank you for your post.
If Bento is displaying an "unexpected" error message, it means Bento has encountered something in the file that shouldn't be there and your file may be damaged. Try the following steps:
1. Quit Bento.
2. Rename your existing bento.bentodb file to original.bentodb (to safeguard the existing data). You will find the bento.bentodb file in the following location:
[User Account] -> Library -> Application Support -> Bento -> bento.bentodb
3. Launch Bento. This will create a new bento.bentodb file with new Libraries.
4. Pull down the File menu and select "Revert to Bento Backup...". Select your last weekly backup file and click "Open". This will give you your data back to when you last backed up. If the file is still a problem, then revert back to the previous week.
If you have entered a lot of data since your last backup, then you can send in your database file, and I will try to extract the data. Check your Inbox at the top of this page for instructions where to send the file.

I received your database file. Thank you.
Although I see 17 Libraries in your database, I don't see any reference to a "Seed Germination" Library. Do you have a previous backup of your database file? I'll then move the "Seed Germination" Library into the current database file.

I have various libraries with names like Seeds 03 - 09, and I have a copy of the old ones.
The two new ones: seeds sown 2011 seeds sown 2012
have not been backed up because I'd just done them over the last few days.
And how do I get Bento 4 back? Only Bento 2 is still on the computer.

Diane Whitehead:
I do have the "Seeds 03 - 09" Library with four Collections. Naturally, I don't have the two new Libraries ("seeds sown 2011" or "seeds sown 2012") since you just created them. Unfortunately, any reference to the "Seed Germination" Library is lost.
The file you sent is definitely a Bento 2 file. If you don't know what happened to your original Bento 4 database file, I can't help you much. However, I have converted your Bento 2 file to Bento 4, and I'll have sent that to our Technical Support contact, so you should get a reply from him shortly.
You can download and reinstall Bento 4 through Knowledge Base Article #9985 at:
